Regaining Control

So recently I have been reading a web blog known as the "Art of Manliness".  Their biggest push as of late is a whole self-improvement thing, and I have decided that starting tomorrow, I will be taking steps to improve myself.  The steps I will be taking go along as follows:  Physical appearance, confidence, organization, reaching a new level of intelligence.

Let's start with physical appearance.  As one would most likely think, this begins with exercise and diet.  Although these aren't the only things that should be focused on, there is also dressing nicely, and looking presentable (hair cut, showered, shaved, and good dental hygiene) .  I have been circling around different diets and exercise plans with little success for some time now, and it is my hope that writing it down and sharing it with the world will push me to be more successful.  After numerous attempts at diets I have settled on a diet I will call Paleo.  Most simply put, Paleo is an outrageously low carb/low sugar diet.  It revolves around the idea that one should eat only what a caveman would be able to eat.  The diet is mostly meat, with veggies and the occasional fruit mixed in.

Now that the diet is covered, let's have a look at exercise.  I have developed an exercise plan that I believe will get me the body type I am looking for.  It consists of daily workouts following the Insanity workout plan, while alternating P90x's Ab Ripper X, and a calisthenics circuit (i will also be doing pull-ups and chin ups) every other day.  I intend to wake up around 7 am each morning and do either ab ripper or calisthenics, and around 4 pm I will be doing my Insanity for the day.

In addition to exercising and eating right I will be making a heavy push to dress nicer, and to maintain a well-groomed look.  The clothing will be difficult given my cash flow situation, but that will come in time.  However, I will start the other aspects of looking well-groomed with daily intense dental hygiene, showering, shaving, and getting my hair regularly trimmed.

Next on the docket is organization.  The Art of Manliness has an excellent article about scheduling one's life that I intend to follow quite strictly.  Keeping my room clean and tidy is another important part of the organization section of this self-improvement thing.

I would like to explain the "new level of intelligence" I mentioned next.  This, as well as confidence, is a very large step that will most likely take many years to achieve, but let's start small shall we?  By the end of this school year, May 2013, I would like to learn a new language.  My personal interest is pushing me to Italian.  In addition I will have an in-depth knowledge of the most common computer programs I will encounter in my chosen career path.  These two things are just a start, but I have big plans for the future that I can address at a later date.

The last thing on my list is confidence.  Some years back now I used to be confident and excited to try new things.  This made me much more likable, and leagues more interesting then other people.  Since attending school at a collegiate level I have lost that confidence I once had.  I have no doubt that my confidence level will normalize as I begin to regain control of my life, but as an added bonus I have decided that it's time to put myself out in the world.  Start doing things I've never tried, and start meeting people I normally wouldn't.  That being said, I'm getting tired now and if I'm going to start all of this tomorrow I'm gonna need my sleep.

Please stop by, I will be posting weekly/twice weekly posts on my progress as well as possibly videos!

Thank you for reading, and I encourage you to join me in regaining control.
